The Seattle Mariners came painfully close to making franchise history this season, falling just short of a trip to the World Series after losing a decisive Game Seven in the American League Championship Series. The narrow defeat left a bitter aftertaste, but it also highlighted how close the team truly is to reaching the next level. Now, as the offseason begins, Seattle’s front office faces an important challenge: not only must it work to keep its current core intact, but it must also find a way to add another elite player who can help push the team over the top.
According to FanSided writer Chris Landers, that game-changing addition could very well be two-time World Series Most Valuable Player Corey Seager. Seager, who has built a reputation as one of baseball’s most dependable and clutch performers on the biggest stages, would represent a massive improvement over J.P. Crawford at shortstop.

If the Mariners were somehow able to acquire him, Landers argues, it could instantly transform Seattle into a powerhouse loaded with star talent. Pairing Seager with players such as Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodríguez, Josh Naylor, and Randy Arozarena would give the Mariners one of the most intimidating and well-rounded lineups in all of Major League Baseball.
While the acquisition of Naylor is already seen as an important step forward for the franchise, Landers believes that Seattle’s infield remains a work in progress. Beyond Naylor, there are still several noticeable gaps that need to be addressed. The organization does have highly regarded prospect Colt Emerson waiting in the wings, and he is expected to make his major league debut in the not-too-distant future.
However, whether Emerson ultimately settles in at shortstop or third base is still uncertain. Until his role becomes clearer, the Mariners are left with several current infield options who, while serviceable, do not offer the same level of impact that a true star like Seager would bring.

Players such as Cole Young, Leo Rivas, and Ben Williamson have shown flashes of potential, but none of them project as the type of difference-maker that can anchor a championship-level infield. This is where Seager becomes such an intriguing option. Not only is he one of the best offensive shortstops in baseball, but he also has an established track record of delivering in high-pressure moments. Adding him to Seattle’s lineup would not just fill a hole—it would dramatically raise the ceiling of the entire team.

There is also an emotional and historical element to this possibility that cannot be ignored. Corey’s older brother, Kyle Seager, is already a beloved figure in Mariners history, having spent his entire career in Seattle and earning the respect of fans as a franchise cornerstone.
Because of that connection, it is difficult to imagine Corey placing Seattle on any kind of no-trade list. In fact, the opportunity for him to wear a Mariners uniform could be seen as a kind of full-circle moment—a chance to continue the Seager legacy in the city where his brother became a star. That narrative alone would electrify the fan base.

From a financial standpoint, there is reason to believe that the Mariners could make such a move work. Even after bringing in Naylor, the team should still have some flexibility when it comes to payroll. If ownership is truly serious about making a championship push while the window is wide open, investing in a proven superstar like Seager would be a logical and aggressive step. Seattle already has a strong foundation in place, and this is the kind of bold move that could turn them from contenders into favorites.

Looking at Seager’s recent on-field performance only strengthens the argument. In the past season, he posted a very impressive slash line of .271 batting average, .373 on-base percentage, and .487 slugging percentage, resulting in an .860 OPS. Over the course of 102 games, he collected 19 doubles, 21 home runs, and drove in 50 runs.
Those numbers are even more impressive when one considers that he was not on the field for a full 162-game schedule. If healthy for an entire season, his production could be even higher, making him a central force in any lineup he joins.

Now, imagine adding that kind of offensive strength to a batting order that already includes the power of Raleigh, the dynamic energy of Rodríguez, the consistency of Naylor, and the explosiveness of Arozarena. That combination would give Seattle arguably the most dangerous and balanced lineup in the American League West. Pitchers would have very few weak spots to exploit, and opposing managers would be forced to navigate one superstar after another, inning after inning. It is the type of lineup construction that wins divisions and makes deep postseason runs.

Beyond statistics and strategy, the idea of Corey Seager joining the Mariners also carries symbolic weight. For many fans, it would feel like a second chapter of the Seager family’s impact on the franchise. Kyle Seager’s time in Seattle left a lasting impression; he embodied loyalty, consistency, and leadership.
Bringing Corey into the fold would feel like a continuation of that spirit, a bridge between eras. And considering Corey’s success in leading his teams to championships and claiming multiple World Series MVP honors, there is reason to believe that his influence in Seattle could be even greater.
Of course, making a deal of this magnitude would not be easy. It would take careful planning, negotiations, and likely some significant sacrifices in terms of prospects or financial commitments. But for a team that was just one game away from the World Series, playing it safe might no longer be the best option. Sometimes, the difference between being a good team and a great one comes down to a single, bold move.
For now, the idea remains a possibility rather than a certainty. But it is one that Mariners fans would love to see come to life. If the front office is willing to be creative and aggressive, they could put together a proposal that would intrigue Seager and make a compelling case for him to bring his talents to Seattle. With the talent already on the roster and the hunger to finally reach the Fall Classic, adding a player of his caliber could be the final, defining piece of the puzzle.
All that remains is for the organization to seriously consider the opportunity in front of them—and decide whether they are ready to take the leap from playoff contender to true championship heavyweight.
