BREAKING: Red Sox-Reds blockbuster trade for Jarren Duran, Wilyer Abreu to finally complete the puzzle

The Boston Red Sox are entering the offseason with two clear priorities: adding a right-handed power bat and securing another ace-caliber starting pitcher. With the payroll flexibility gained from trading Rafael Devers, they could pursue free agents, but their surplus of talented outfielders also makes a trade possible.

MLB analyst Nick Diamond recently connected the Red Sox to a potential trade partner in the NL Central—the Cincinnati Reds. While pitching could be a target, Diamond suggested Boston might instead pursue a hitter.

Jarren Duran apologizes for directing offensive remark at fan

“I’ve seen a lot of people bring up the Reds as a trade fit for Jarren Duran or Wilyer Abreu because of their pitching depth. That’s true, but Cincinnati also has a right-handed bat who could interest Boston in Noelvi Marte,” Diamond noted.

“At the deadline, the Reds acquired Ke’Bryan Hayes for third base, and with De La Cruz, McLain, and Encarnacion-Strand or Steer already in the infield, there’s a potential blockbuster opportunity—especially if the Sox move on from Alex Bregman.”

Wilyer Abreu starts 2025 season strong

Whether it’s pitching or hitting, a deal between Boston and Cincinnati could make sense. The Red Sox could target a pitcher like Andrew Abbott or pursue Marte, who could shift to first base if Bregman stays put.

In any case, Boston will look to find the right trade partner—perhaps the Reds or another team—to finally add the missing pieces to their roster puzzle.
