With the St. Louis Cardinals’ season now over, attention turns to the offseason, where one of the biggest questions will be the future of 10-time Gold Glove winner Nolan Arenado.

The Cardinals explored trading him last winter but couldn’t land a deal that suited him. A trade with the Houston Astros was reportedly lined up, but Arenado exercised his no-trade clause to block it.

Now, as the organization shifts focus toward building around its younger core, it’s expected they’ll revisit the trade market for their star third baseman. This time, Arenado is likely to expand his list of acceptable destinations, which could significantly boost one AL Central team’s chances.

Tigers linked as potential trade suitor for Cardinals $260 million slugger

The Detroit Tigers’ season has been a rollercoaster, starting as one of the league’s top teams before stumbling late and almost missing the playoffs.

They managed to sneak in, though, and have a solid core to build on. According to Josh Jacobs of Redbirds Rants, Detroit might be a landing spot that appeals to Nolan Arenado.

“For Arenado, the Tigers offer a legitimate contender, and being in the American League provides an even clearer road to the World Series than what he’d face in the National League,” Jacobs explained.

Detroit rotated through multiple players at third base this year, but Arenado could bring stability to the position while also offering veteran leadership to guide the club’s younger talent.
