Hosts of *Giants Talk*, Cole Kuiper and Alex Pavlovic, examine San Francisco’s starting pitching and explore potential ways for the Giants to bolster their rotation.
Left-handed pitcher Robbie Ray has chosen to stay with the Giants for at least the next two MLB seasons, declining the opt-out clause in his contract, according to ESPN MLB insider Jeff Passan.
Ray, therefore, remains in San Francisco through the 2025 and 2026 seasons, with $50 million left on his five-year, $115 million deal originally signed with the Seattle Mariners before the 2022 season.

The Giants acquired Ray, the 2021 American League Cy Young Award winner, from the Mariners in a January 2024 trade while he was still recovering from Tommy John surgery performed early in the 2023 season.
Ray debuted for San Francisco on July 24, pitching 30 innings across seven games, allowing 16 runs, and striking out 43 batters.
Over his 11-year MLB career, spanning stints with the Detroit Tigers, Arizona Diamondbacks, Toronto Blue Jays, Mariners, and Giants, Ray has compiled a 77-73 record with a 3.98 ERA, totaling 1,548 strikeouts, 535 walks, and 194 home runs allowed across 1,258.2 innings.
Meanwhile, left-hander Blake Snell opted out of his Giants contract on Friday and will re-enter free agency this offseason. Ray joins Logan Webb, Jordan Hicks, Kyle Harrison, and Hayden Birdsong in the Giants’ projected rotation, backed by promising young depth.
