The New York Mets aren’t done making moves this offseason.

After signing Juan Soto and bolstering their rotation, the Mets recognize there’s still work to be done. While Soto has secured the right field position, the other two outfield spots remain uncertain. Initially, Brandon Nimmo was expected to play left field this season, but the Mets may shift him to center in an offense-first lineup.

In that scenario, Jurickson Profar could step in as the other corner outfielder opposite Soto. Profar is coming off a career-best season, hitting .280 with 24 home runs and 85 RBIs. With 3.6 WAR in 2024 for the San Diego Padres, he proved himself as a reliable difference-maker on numerous occasions.

Profar is projected to land a two-year deal worth $25.8 million—a bargain for a player of his caliber. Adding him could give the Mets one of the strongest outfield trios in the league.

According to Baseball Savant, Profar ranked in the 94th percentile for batting run value. While his defense isn’t elite, his offensive contributions more than compensate.

The Mets currently have Starling Marte, Jose Siri, and Tyrone Taylor on the roster, but one or more of them is likely to be traded or designated for assignment before the season begins.

Profar represents a significant upgrade over all of them, boosting the team’s run production. Last season, even with Pete Alonso leading the charge, the Mets ranked fifth in the National League with 768 runs scored.
