Alexander Eneas, a promising young baseball prospect, has recently signed with the New York Mets, marking a significant step in his journey from the local leagues in The Bahamas to a Major League Baseball team. His story is one of determination and hard work.
Known as ‘Big Al’ for his impressive pitching skills, Eneas shared his excitement and gratitude for the opportunity. “I’m really happy, excited, and blessed,” he said. “I’m looking forward to a great season with the Mets, advancing within the organization, and representing The Bahamas. This is truly a blessing, and I’m extremely grateful.”

Looking ahead, Eneas outlined his goals. “In the short term, I want to hone my skills and have a successful first season in the Dominican Summer League,” he explained. “Long term, I hope to be moved to the Florida academy, progress through the Minor Leagues, and eventually play at the Mets’ stadium in New York.”
Eneas’s baseball career began at age 12 when he was selected to represent The Bahamas at the U13 Little League World Series in Branson, Missouri. There, he made a lasting impression by pitching a no-hitter against Cuba.
However, his progress was delayed when the Covid-19 pandemic paused sports activities in The Bahamas for nearly two years, leaving him with limited formal training.
In August 2021, Eneas moved to the United States and attended Bolles School in Jacksonville, Florida. He joined the school’s junior varsity baseball team and completed two terms before returning to Nassau, where he finished Grade 9 at Boost Academy.
Later, he joined MaxD Sports Development, a local baseball academy under the leadership of Coach Greg Burrows Jr. Burrows is known for mentoring several Bahamian players who have gone on to play professionally, including Jazz Chisholm, an outfielder for the New York Yankees and a 2023 MLB All-Star.
Under Coach Burrows’ guidance, Eneas made significant progress, learning the discipline and commitment needed to succeed in baseball. He played in the Senior division with the Freedom Farm’s Caribs Team, coached by Kevin Moxey, and had the chance to participate in international tournaments in Florida and Georgia, as well as training sessions in the Dominican Republic.
In January 2025, Eneas showcased his abilities at a baseball event in Nassau, organized by LDK Baseball, a program founded by former MLB player and current coach Antoan Richardson. It was at this event that international scout Elvis Rios recognized Eneas’s potential, leading to his recruitment by the New York Mets.
Eneas will join the Mets as a utility infielder, primarily playing shortstop and second base. He will team up with fellow Bahamian player Bohan Adderley, who joined the Mets in 2024.
