7:12 PM: The Mets have reached an agreement with right-hander, pending a physical, per Joel Sherman of the New York Post. Sherman previously mentioned the Mets were considering Holmes as a potential rotation piece, despite his role as a full-time reliever since his MLB debut in 2018.

Holmes is making the move across New York after spending three and a half seasons with the Yankees. He initially struggled with the Pirates from 2018-21, but the Yankees saw potential in his impressive ground-ball rates and acquired him at the 2021 trade deadline. While the trade initially flew under the radar, Holmes quickly made an impact in pinstripes.

At the time of the trade, Holmes had a 4.93 ERA but turned things around with 28 innings of 1.61 ERA pitching to begin his Yankees tenure. By 2022, he had taken over as the closer for Aaron Boone, saving 20 games with a 2.54 ERA over 63 2/3 innings and earning his first All-Star selection. He repeated the feat in 2023, posting a 2.86 ERA across 63 innings and recording 24 saves.
