The Red Sox have begun trimming their roster after nearly three weeks of camp.

On Friday morning, the team announced that right-hander Luis Perales and outfielder Jhostynxon Garcia have been optioned to minor league camp.

Additionally, left-hander Jovani Moran and right-handers Robert Stock, Brian Van Belle, and Jacob Webb—all non-roster invitees—have also been reassigned to minor league camp.

None of these players were considered strong candidates for the major league roster. Garcia, a highly regarded prospect, has yet to play above Double-A and is likely to begin the season in Portland.

Perales, meanwhile, is set to miss the entire season while recovering from Tommy John surgery.

Van Belle and Webb, both Red Sox minor leaguers, ended last season at Triple-A, while Moran and Stock were recent additions competing for a roster spot but faced tough competition in a deeper pitching staff.

Additional roster cuts are expected in the coming days as the Red Sox move closer to finalizing their 26-man Opening Day roster.
