The San Francisco Giants enter the offseason with several priorities to address, beginning with hiring a new manager. Once that’s settled, reshaping the roster becomes the next focus.
One glaring need is the starting rotation. Logan Webb and Robbie Ray form a solid top two, but there’s little depth behind them. Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic suggested that Shane Bieber could be a realistic target for San Francisco.

“Former Cy Young winner Shane Bieber makes sense because he won’t cost a draft pick, isn’t expected to demand a long-term deal, and still carries significant upside,” Baggarly wrote. “The Giants need to follow the example of the Dodgers and Padres, who have consistently built up their pitching depth to stay ahead in the NL West. San Francisco must be aggressive, creative, and flexible when it comes to the pitching market.”
Bieber’s 2024 season was limited to just seven starts with the Toronto Blue Jays after recovering from Tommy John surgery. Still, he put up a 3.57 ERA with 37 strikeouts and seven walks following his trade from Cleveland.

While acquiring him won’t come cheap, Buster Posey has shown a willingness to spend in order to make the Giants competitive again. Spotrac projects Bieber’s next deal at six years and $145.59 million, with an annual average value of $24.3 million.
If the Giants land him, Bieber would join Webb and Ray to form a formidable trio atop the rotation, giving the club a much-needed boost for 2025 and beyond.
