The Chicago White Sox remain one of baseball’s weakest teams, and it appears that won’t change anytime soon. The franchise is staring down a lengthy rebuild, though there’s a silver lining — a few top prospects could emerge as key contributors in the coming years.

In the meantime, the White Sox are already seeing roster turnover. Outfielder Corey Julks, 29, has elected free agency, per MLB’s Scott Merkin.

Corey Julks' first home run of 2024

A former eighth-round pick of the Houston Astros, Julks appeared in 72 games for Chicago over the past two seasons. This year, he played in just six games, collecting three hits in 12 at-bats — two of which were doubles.

In 2023, Julks hit .214/.275/.306 with a 67 OPS+ over 66 games for the White Sox, while posting a -1.1 WAR. His rookie season came the year prior with Houston, when he played in 93 games, hitting six homers and 14 doubles while stealing 15 bases in 18 tries.

Now entering free agency, Julks may have difficulty landing another major league opportunity, though his speed could earn him a minor league deal with a club willing to take a flier.
