The Seattle Mariners are in serious need of adding more power to their lineup, even with Cal Raleigh enjoying a breakout season. While Raleigh has emerged as one of the game’s top performers, the team still lacks consistent production behind him in the batting order.
First base stands out as a potential area for improvement. With few star-caliber players expected to be available at the trade deadline, the Mariners may need to act boldly to land the right fit.
According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Seattle has been connected to Arizona Diamondbacks slugger Josh Naylor as a possible trade target. Nightengale reports that the D-backs are open to moving Zac Gallen, Merrill Kelly, All-Star third baseman Eugenio Suárez, and Naylor—all of whom are pending free agents—in exchange for young pitching.
Notably, Suárez was traded from Seattle to Arizona last November, and the Mariners are reportedly interested in bringing him back along with Naylor.

Naylor would be an ideal addition for the Mariners, bringing power and home run upside to a position where they need help. With his contract expiring after the season, he’s likely to come at a reasonable cost in trade talks.
While other teams will likely show interest in Naylor, Seattle could be a strong candidate to acquire him. The Mariners already have the pitching depth needed for a playoff run and a star behind the plate in Raleigh. The next step is for the front office to plug the remaining gaps to give the team a legitimate shot at contending down the stretch.
