REPORT: San Diego Padres To Cut Ties With $70 Million Star In Favor Of Texas Rangers

At the 2024 MLB trade deadline, the San Diego Padres acquired reliever Tanner Scott from the Miami Marlins, and he quickly became a key asset, securing numerous wins for the team in the second half of the season.

Now a free agent, Scott is expected to leave the Padres, with few experts predicting a return to San Diego.

Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report recently suggested that Scott could sign a four-year, $70 million deal with the Texas Rangers. He noted that the Rangers are in desperate need of bullpen help after losing most of their 2024 bullpen, including Kirby Yates, David Robertson, José Ureña, José Leclerc, and Andrew Chafin.

This leaves Luis Curvelo as a potential option for save situations. Miller believes Scott would be a great fit for the Rangers, as they could afford him even after re-signing Nathan Eovaldi for $75 million.

Scott would be a significant addition for the Rangers, and they could likely meet the proposed price. However, the key issue is whether they are willing to spend that amount on Scott, especially with cheaper alternatives available. The Rangers may prefer to invest in bringing back veteran closer Kirby Yates instead of committing $20 million annually to Scott for four years.
