The New York Yankees have done a strong job recovering from losing Juan Soto to the New York Mets. They’ve already signed free agent starting pitcher Max Fried and acquired Devin Williams from the Milwaukee Brewers in a trade.
Although the Yankees may still need to bolster their bullpen with more pitching, their primary need remains in the lineup. They are likely to pursue one of the top free-agent outfielders to replace Soto’s spot.
Bleacher Report’s Kerry Miller recently predicted that the Yankees will land outfielder from a division rival in free agency. Miller forecasts that Santander will leave the Baltimore Orioles and sign a five-year, $100 million contract with New York.
Miller mentioned that the Yankees are expected to aggressively target Santander, noting that adding him to a lineup with Aaron Judge, Giancarlo Stanton, Austin Wells, Jazz Chisholm Jr., Anthony Volpe, and Jasson DomÃnguez would create a potent top seven.
While first and second base still need attention, the lineup would be impressive, making the Yankees a strong contender for the American League.
Santander would be a significant boost for the Yankees, as his switch-hitting abilities would be well-suited to the hitter-friendly environment of Yankee Stadium. While he may not consistently post a .400 on-base percentage, he has the potential to hit 40 home runs multiple times over a five-year contract.
