REPORT: San Francisco Giants To Add Baltimore Orioles’ $105M 44-Home Run Slugger To Join Forces With Willy Adames

The San Francisco Giants have struggled in recent years to land elite talent, but that trend could change if shortstop Willy Adames’ seven-year, $182 million deal becomes official. With that in place, should president of baseball operations Buster Posey make another bold move to acquire Baltimore Orioles slugger.

Adames would provide much-needed stability at shortstop while bringing the potential to hit 30-plus home runs per season. At 29 years old, he would slot perfectly into the middle of San Francisco’s lineup, according to FanGraphs’ Roster Resource.

Pairing Santander with Adames and Matt Chapman would significantly elevate the Giants’ offense. Santander, a switch-hitter, is coming off a breakout 2024 season with the Orioles, where he earned his first All-Star nod while slashing .235/.308/.506 with 44 home runs, 102 RBIs, and 91 runs scored.

FanSided’s Cody Williams recently highlighted four major moves the Giants should pursue following the Adames agreement, including targeting Santander. “His power would fit perfectly in San Francisco, and the Giants have the outfield flexibility to make it work,” Williams wrote. He also suggested that acting quickly could allow the Giants to outmaneuver teams eyeing Juan Soto, for whom Santander might be a backup plan.

If the Giants were to land Santander, they could potentially see their first 30-homer season since Barry Bonds hit 45 in 2004. According to The Athletic’s Tim Britton, Santander is projected to secure a five-year, $105 million deal this offseason.
