The Chicago White Sox are planning to take another step back to position themselves for future success. Rumors suggest that they could trade both their ace Garrett Crochet and star outfielder Luis Robert Jr.

According to Jim Bowden of The Athletic, all signs point to Crochet being moved this offseason. Bowden mentioned the Baltimore Orioles, Boston Red Sox, and Los Angeles Dodgers as possible suitors, but the Philadelphia Phillies could be the best fit for the left-handed starter.

The White Sox appear more focused on acquiring younger talent, making Caba (18 years old, No. 81 overall prospect) and Burkholder (19 years old, No. 8 Phillies prospect) valuable assets in this deal. Mick Abel, though not young, was once a top-100 prospect and still has potential despite a rough season last year. A change of scenery could help him reach his former promise. For the Phillies, this trade would address their need for a fifth starter, improving on Taijuan Walker’s performance from last year.

While losing these prospects would impact the Phillies’ farm system, the blow wouldn’t be as severe as it seems. Caba is talented but very young, and the Phillies have top shortstop prospect Aidan Miller, who looks like the future at that position. Plus, they have other promising shortstop prospects like Devin Saltiban and Bryan Rincon.

Parting with Burkholder, selected in the second round of the 2024 MLB Draft, would be tough, but Philadelphia has two outfield prospects ranked higher than him by MLB Pipeline.
