The White Sox suffered another blow to their pitching staff on Friday, placing starter on the 15-day injured list (retroactive to June 17) due to a right forearm strain.
He showed no clear signs of injury during his most recent outing on June 12 against the Houston Astros, where he pitched six innings, allowing four earned runs on seven hits with two walks and five strikeouts.
He was originally slated to start Friday night’s game in Toronto at 6:07 p.m. CT, but the team announced his IL placement just hours earlier, at 12:30 p.m. CT. The White Sox have yet to name his replacement, though pitchers Wikelman Gonzalez and Jake Palisch were called up from the minors. Additionally, left-handed reliever Cam Booser was also placed on the IL with a left shoulder strain.

Before the injury, Martin had been one of the more consistent arms in the rotation, leading the team with 80.2 innings pitched while posting a 3.79 ERA, 1.22 WHIP, 19 walks, 53 strikeouts, and seven quality starts.
This is a major setback for a team mired in an eight-game losing streak. Martin’s 0.7 WAR ranks second among White Sox pitchers, and he becomes the third starter to land on the IL this season, alongside Martín Pérez and Jonathan Cannon.
What was once a strength for the team is now a growing concern, forcing the White Sox to dig into their organizational depth—or potentially explore outside help via waivers or trades. Martin had even been floated as a possible trade piece, and this injury could now complicate those plans ahead of the July 31 trade deadline.
