The Afrobeat genre in Nigeria has become a global event, starting with a new generation of Afrobeat singers like Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Davido.
On Tuesday, November 23, 2021, the Grammy Award-winning Recording Academy published a list of nominations for the 64th Grammy Award, which was held in January 2022.
The Academy has announced nominations for the 2022 GRAMMYs Awards at the beginning of the year for all 86 categories.
Five Nigerian candidates were nominated in different categories. Wizkid has two designations: Burna Boy, Tems, Femi, and Made Kuti.

Wizkid’s Nigerian companions – Femi Kuti, Burna Boy, and Tems – were nominated for the Best Global Music Performance at the Grammy Gala. Benini legend Angelique Kidjo was also nominated in the same category.
Nigeria’s Afrobeat Star Wizkid’s Made In Lagos album was also nominated for Best Global Music Album at The Grammy, alongside Femi Kuti and Made Kuti’s Legacy +, Angelique Kidjo’s Mother Nature, and Rocky Dawumi’s Voice of Bunbon Volume.
Tems made his debut at the Grammy Award for Best Global Music Performance in collaboration with Wizkid, giving Wizkid another nod to “Essence”.
