The Los Angeles Rams are in a strong position financially and possess valuable draft assets heading into the post-2025 period. Head coach Sean McVay has not ruled out the possibility of a trade to bring back cornerback Him.

In an interview with Adam Schein on Mad Dog Sports Radio, McVay shared that talks are still ongoing. He also praised Him, calling him a “total stud.”

“He’s continued to play at an elite level. We’ve stayed in close contact even after the trade to Miami. He’s a special competitor, a great person, and a great father,” McVay said during the May 2 episode of Schein on Sports, according to Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio.

McVay acknowledged the complexity of acquiring a player like Ramsey, citing factors such as contract terms and trade compensation. “There are a lot of elements when dealing with a player of his caliber. Those talks are happening, likely with multiple teams. We’ll see what happens, but we’ll always explore opportunities to strengthen our roster, as long as everything aligns with what such a move requires.”

These statements are consistent with McVay’s earlier remarks about Ramsey following the conclusion of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Notably, the Rams did not draft a cornerback or add one via undrafted free agency after the draft.

Rams GM & HC Talk Jalen Ramsey Trade

Jalen Ramsey spent over three seasons with the Rams from 2019 to 2022 and helped the team win a Super Bowl after the 2021 season. Head coach Sean McVay isn’t the only one who has left the door open to a potential reunion with the All-Pro cornerback.

Rams general manager Les Snead confirmed that he had discussions with the Dolphins prior to the draft about possible trades.

However, he didn’t clarify whether Ramsey was part of those talks.

“I’ve had conversations with Miami, and we talked about getting through the draft,” Snead told reporters on April 22. “There are a lot of moving parts when it comes to trades—contracts and other factors. I’m not sure where things stand right now.”

“It’s almost like a second phase of free agency,” he continued. “You get with your pro scouting department and evaluate potential moves, whether that’s trades or player-for-player deals. That’s all part of the process. Whether that involves Miami and Jalen, I can’t say.”

McVay echoed that sentiment, noting Ramsey’s talent and familiarity with the organization.

“He’s an outstanding player, and we know him extremely well,” McVay said on April 22. “You’d never rule out bringing in a guy of his caliber. But like Les mentioned, our current focus is on the draft. With a player like Jalen, there are a lot of factors to consider.”

“You never close the door on adding a star player who brings versatility and high-level performance—like he showed here, in Jacksonville, and most recently in Miami.”

Jalen Ramsey Trade May Not Happen

There continues to be widespread speculation about the Rams’ interest in Jalen Ramsey, but there’s still a legitimate chance the Dolphins choose not to trade him.

Miami’s leadership is heading into a pivotal season.

According to NFL.com’s Nick Shook (May 1), while Miami’s openness about potentially trading Ramsey suggests a deal might be coming, it’s far from guaranteed.

If the team finds that interest in Ramsey is underwhelming and the offers aren’t worth it, they could opt to repair their relationship with him and keep him through 2025—the final year with guaranteed money on his current contract. They might decide to wait and gain financial flexibility by releasing him next offseason instead of accepting a low return now.

Shook added that the future of general manager Chris Grier and head coach Mike McDaniel may hinge on the upcoming season, which could influence the decision to retain Ramsey rather than offload him for minimal value.

Financial complications also play a major role, as pointed out by Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer.

Breer (April 30) noted that Ramsey’s $25.1 million salary for this season—nearly all of which is fully guaranteed—makes it difficult for any team, including the Rams, to absorb the cost.

With most teams tight on cap space at this point in the offseason, few could realistically take on that contract without special circumstances. Despite Ramsey’s talent, Breer expressed skepticism about teams being willing to acquire him under those terms.

Looking ahead, Ramsey has a $16.6 million cap hit in 2025, the final year of his current five-year, $100 million deal. He also has a three-year, $73.2 million extension starting in 2026. Meanwhile, the Rams currently have $19.8 million in cap space, per Over The Cap.
