Shocking: Philadelphia Eagles’ massive offseason departure includes edge rusher Josh Sweat and more, hit the open market, leaving multiple holes

The Philadelphia Eagles reached Super Bowl LIX with one of the most talented rosters in recent years. Now on the brink of claiming the Lombardi Trophy with a team built for sustained success, the franchise is reportedly preparing for a major departure this offseason.

Several key Eagles players are set to become free agents, potentially creating significant gaps on both offense and defense. On the defensive side, edge rusher Josh Sweat, defensive tackle Milton Williams, and All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun are all approaching free agency. Additionally, right guard Mekhi Becton’s contract is expiring.

Compounding these concerns, veteran edge rusher Brandon Graham is considering retirement, while key depth players—including Kenneth Gainwell, Oren Burks, and Avonte Maddox—are also on expiring deals. With multiple departures already expected, another significant loss appears to be on the horizon.

According to ESPN’s senior NFL insider Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles are “bracing” for offensive coordinator Kellen Moore to accept the New Orleans Saints’ head coaching job after Super Bowl LIX. NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero further reported that Saints general manager Mickey Loomis has informed other coaching candidates that his focus is now on Moore.

Pelissero also noted that Moore is already assembling a potential coaching staff for New Orleans, with the possibility of bringing several Eagles assistants along for promotions.

If Moore departs, it would mark the third straight offseason in which the Eagles must find a new offensive coordinator. He replaced Brian Johnson, who was fired after the 2023 season, following Johnson’s promotion to replace Shane Steichen, who became the Indianapolis Colts’ head coach.

While head coach Nick Sirianni will have a role in the hiring process, general manager Howie Roseman is expected to play a major part in selecting Moore’s replacement, given his previous success in hiring Moore and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio last offseason.
