Report: Toronto Blue Jays To Land Philadelphia Phillies’ $142 Million All-Star In Blockbuster Deal

The Toronto Blue Jays were once considered strong contenders in the Juan Soto sweepstakes, but recent rumors suggest they are now seen as longshots to land the superstar.

While there may be some validity to this, the Blue Jays demonstrated persistence in the Shohei Ohtani sweepstakes last year, so it wouldn’t be wise to rule them out until Soto officially signs. That said, Toronto must explore backup options in case they miss out on Soto, as the team aims to remain highly competitive regardless.

Jacob Mountz of FanSided suggests a compelling alternative: the Blue Jays should consider trading for Philadelphia Phillies All-Star. Spotrac projects Bohm to secure a seven-year, $142 million deal when he becomes a free agent in 2027.

“There were concerns about his defense, but He has shown significant improvement at third base,” Mountz notes. “If needed, the Jays could use him at first base, where he’s more reliable defensively. However, with Vlad Guerrero Jr. at first, Bohm might eventually be shifted to the DH role. While he won’t solve all of Toronto’s issues, he would be a valuable addition to their batting order.” Bohm is projected to earn $8.1 million next season and will hit free agency after 2026.

Phillies-Cardinals Blockbuster Trade Proposal Sends Philly Alec Bohm Replacement

Last season, Bohm hit .280 with 61 extra-base hits, including 15 home runs, 97 RBIs, and a .779 OPS (117 OPS+). Defensively, he saved five runs across the corner infield spots, placing him in the 87th percentile.

Though the Phillies are rumored to be open to offers for Bohm, it remains unclear what the Blue Jays could offer in return. Philadelphia would likely seek established major league talent rather than just prospects. Toronto might consider constructing a trade package featuring Chris Bassitt and top prospects if these discussions progress beyond speculation.
