He might be on the move in free agency after nine seasons and two World Series titles with the Houston Astros. The third baseman is reportedly seeking a massive contract, and there’s even speculation he could switch positions for the right fit. According to ESPN’s Jesse Rogers, several front-office executives see the San Francisco Giants and Philadelphia Phillies as top contenders for Him if he leaves Houston.
Rogers surveyed 18 executives, with 11 predicting He will depart. He explained, *“In another fairly close vote for a longtime star, the value of His experience and leadership tilted executives to him leaving Houston. ‘Because other teams need his bat and battle-tested vet presence more than Houston does,’ one said.”*
Rogers also highlighted potential fits with the Phillies and Giants. “Some respondents identified possible destinations, such as Philadelphia if the Phillies trade Alec Bohm, or San Francisco in a bigger-than-expected deal. Bregman’s agent, Scott Boras, has even suggested a position change is an option, which could allow him to join Matt Chapman in the Giants’ infield.”
Bregman’s connection to these teams stems largely from the contract he’s seeking. Reports indicate he’s aiming for a “Manny Machado-esque” deal worth around $350 million, a figure only a handful of teams, including the Giants and Phillies, could realistically afford.
Potential Alex Bregman landing spots
If Alex Bregman remains at third base and seeks a lucrative contract, the Toronto Blue Jays could be a strong fit. They’ve unexpectedly emerged as contenders for Juan Soto and seem intent on buying rather than selling this offseason. Should Soto end up elsewhere, the Jays might pivot to Bregman, adding a seasoned veteran to complement their youthful core.

If Bregman is open to a position change, the San Francisco Giants could be his ideal destination. A move to second base would allow him to bring his solid bat to their lineup. Despite the challenges of hitting in Oracle Park, his experience would significantly enhance the team’s offense.
For the Phillies, who fell short in the NLDS, making another $300 million investment might not be the best course of action. They’re addressing issues with shortstop Trea Turner and may consider trading outfielder Nick Castellanos. Even if Alec Bohm is moved, their focus should shift to acquiring an outfielder and bolstering the starting rotation.
Meanwhile, the Astros remain a viable option for Bregman. As a franchise legend, he still fits well with the team if he’s willing to lower his asking price. Despite the speculation surrounding a potential move, Houston cannot be counted out.
