Anthony Richardson received an intriguing injury update leading into Week 17.
The Indianapolis Colts are aiming to finish their season strong, particularly with second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson at the helm. The outlook brightened on Friday when head coach Shane Steichen provided an injury update, as reported by Tom Pelissero on X.
“#Colts QB Anthony Richardson, who didn’t practice all week due to back and foot soreness, is officially questionable for Sunday vs. the #Giants. WR Alec Pierce (concussion) is off the injury report and will return,” Pelissero shared.
Following a 38-30 victory over the Tennessee Titans in Week 16, Richardson was listed on the injury report as a non-participant in practices on both Wednesday and Thursday due to his injuries.

On a positive note, wide receiver Alec Pierce is set to return after sitting out Week 16.
While the injury report suggests Richardson might not play in the Week 17 matchup against the New York Giants, head coach Shane Steichen hasn’t ruled him out just yet.
Colts QB Anthony Richardson receives optimistic injury update from HC Shane Steichen
Richardson’s second year in the NFL has been a mixed bag, but gaining valuable reps remains crucial for his growth.
With only 24 college games under his belt—marked by highs and lows—the Colts still took a gamble on him with the No. 4 pick in the 2023 NFL Draft, drawn by his 6-foot-4, 244-pound frame and powerful arm.

His rookie season was cut short after just four games due to a season-ending shoulder injury that required surgery, sidelining him until 2024.
Now, with only two games left in the 2024 regular season, Colts head coach Shane Steichen appears intent on maximizing Richardson’s time on the field. The organization’s investment in his development remains critical after using such a high draft pick on him just two years ago.
That said, Richardson’s transition hasn’t been without challenges. He entered the league as a raw prospect and has faced limited offensive weapons in Indianapolis, making his progression anything but smooth.
With injuries piling up early in his career, keeping Richardson healthy for the future is also a key priority.
After Steichen’s latest injury update on Friday, the Colts plan to make a game-time decision on Richardson to allow for maximum recovery time.
As Indianapolis clings to playoff hopes heading into Week 17, this update offers fans a glimmer of optimism as the season nears its conclusion.
