Sometimes, words really do say everything.

That seems to be the case for Seattle Mariners pending free agent.

After the Mariners’ Game 7 loss in the ALCS, the veteran slugger spoke with reporters, and his comments suggested he doesn’t expect to return to Seattle.

“It’s tough, because you do your best for your team and you want to keep going,” He told MLB.com. “But it is what it is. It’s a business. And right now, my mindset is to go home and enjoy my family.”

Family was a recurring theme in his remarks.

“It’s going to hurt for a while, but it’s time to go home, get some rest,” he said. “It’s time to get ready for next year—be a dad, be a husband, and be a good person away from the game, too.”

According to MLB.com’s Daniel Kramer, Josh Naylor is a more likely candidate for a new deal with Seattle than Suárez.

The Mariners could eventually turn to top prospect Colt Emerson at third base once he’s ready, and Ben Williamson also remains an in-house option at the position.

Suárez, who turns 35 soon, posted an OPS under .700 after being traded to Seattle at the deadline, but he did hit a career-best 49 home runs in 2025.

There will be suitors for his power bat this offseason—just probably not from the Mariners.
