Man. City beats Sporting in Portugal
Manchester City is as good as qualifying for the Champions League quarter-finals, crushing Sporting CP 5-0 in Portugal on Tuesday in the round of 16.
Riyad Mahrez put the visitors ahead on seven minutes, but he is flagged for offside. After the VAR check, the goal was awarded.
Ten minutes later, City made it 2-0 from the corner kick. Rodri flicked the ball on with his head to Bernardo Silva, who made no mistake and fired the ball into the back of the net.
It was 3-0 for City on 32 minutes. Phil Foden pounced on a loose ball inside the box and beat the goalkeeper with a shot inside the right post.
It was 4-0 for the visitors in 44 minutes. Raheem Sterling played the ball to Bernardo Silva, a whose deflected shot from inside the box went past the helpless Antonio Adan.
Raheem Sterling scored City’s fifth goal, latching on to a pass and unleashing a perfect strike from the edge of the box that went into the top right corner of the goal and past the goalkeeper.
