The 2025 recruiting class is approaching its final deadline of December 4, 2024, when the top prospect will have signed their national letter of intent and will no longer be available. This means that many programs still have a lot of recruiting work ahead of them before the final decision is made.

Fortunately for the Tennessee Volunteers, it’s only mid-July, and they have already completed much of their recruiting efforts. There is likely more positive news to come. Let’s review the current status of the class and provide an update.
Quarterback
The Vols have secured their top recruit in this class, and it was never in question. With a five-star quarterback like George MacIntyre from Tennessee, it would be a shame if he didn’t end up in Knoxville. The 6’6 quarterback is a perfect match for Heupel’s system.
Running Back
Justin Baker, hailing from Buford High School in Buford, Georgia, has been one of the most enduring commits in this recruiting class. Despite his 3-star rating, he is a highly balanced running back with an SEC-caliber build and well-developed vision.
Wide Receiver/Tight End
Although Jaime French is still available and could significantly impact the situation, the Vols have already made impressive strides with their receiver lineup, even if French doesn’t end up joining them. The class features standout commits like Travis Smith Jr., Radarius Jackson from Memphis, and Joakim Johnson. Additionally, Jack Van Dorsealer, a 6’5″, 230-pound tight end, is the sole tight end commit for the class.
Offensive Line
David Sanders Jr’s commitment announcement in August could significantly impact the outlook for the 2025 recruiting class, especially if he decides to join the Vols. Currently, Tennessee has three offensive linemen committed for this class and is in competition with Ohio State to secure Sanders, the top-ranked offensive tackle in the nation. Offensive line coach Glenn Elarbee has done a good job getting the Vols into the running for the top lineman, but now it’s crucial to seal the deal.

The Vols are still grappling with logistical issues from the Jeremy Pruitt era in Knoxville. During the probationary period, the NCAA mandated a reduction in scholarships. Although the Vols had 12 scholarships before the sanctions were imposed, they were still affected by these restrictions.
