The Green Bay Packers appear to have a solid grasp on their quarterback situation. If Jordan Love proves successful, the team will be on its third straight franchise quarterback, a rare accomplishment for any franchise. However, the Packers have shifted their focus to prioritizing the backup quarterback role. They have drafted quarterbacks in both the 2023 and 2024 drafts and remain open to veteran options. This emphasis on backups might spell trouble for their 2023 draft pick.

Green Bay Packers Quarterback Gets Troubling News Ahead Of Training Camp

According to Kenneth Teape of Packers Coverage:

The battle for the backup quarterback position is drawing attention. The team has considered bringing in a veteran option during training camp.

Last season’s backup, Sean Clifford, is competing with 2024 seventh-round pick Michael Pratt for the position. There is concern about how confident the team would be if either of these players had to start games in the event of an injury to Love.

This uncertainty could be why Zack Kruse of Packers Wire thinks Clifford might be at risk of being cut this offseason. In an article identifying one player on the roster bubble at each position, Clifford was his pick among the quarterbacks.

“Clifford had a strong rookie summer last year and is more experienced compared to seventh-round pick Michael Pratt. However, the Packers will let Clifford and Pratt compete for the primary backup role behind Jordan Love in 2024. By bringing in Jake Fromm for a workout and drafting Michael Pratt, Green Bay is keeping their options open behind Love.”

If Clifford is cut, he will likely find a spot on another NFL team. He demonstrated significant talent to the Packers’ front office and secured the backup job with ease last season.
