The Seattle Seahawks are facing pressure to consider trading one of their star players ahead of the November 5, 2024, NFL trade deadline. According to Jason La Canfora of *The Washington Post*, multiple NFL teams have inquired about the availability of wide receiver.

“Expect Him to be a hot topic, similar to last week’s buzz around Cooper Kupp,” La Canfora noted in his October 29, 2024, article, “As NFL trade deadline nears, more wide receivers could be on the move.” La Canfora added that general managers are reaching out to Seattle’s GM John Schneider, as they have before. Given Seattle’s depth at receiver, along with Metcalf’s contract, he’s viewed as the most likely candidate if a trade were to happen, though interested teams remain cautious about their chances.

Despite the increased interest, it doesn’t seem likely that the Seahawks are eager to part with Him. La Canfora explained that Schneider, who holds He is in high regard, is unlikely to trade him, especially with the Seahawks (currently 4-5) still in the playoff race.

“He is a favorite of Schneider’s, and though Seattle has lost three of their last four games, they’re still contending,” La Canfora added. However, with multiple teams dealing with injuries and a rising demand for receivers, Seattle’s management will have a lot to consider as the deadline approaches, particularly with a rookie head coach and an eye on long-term assets.

DK Metcalf Is Headed Towards a Lucrative New Contract

If the Seahawks were to reconsider, what would be the benefit of trading Metcalf? The standout receiver is currently on a three-year, $72 million contract lasting through the 2025 season, positioning him for a substantial extension in the near future.

One could argue that Seattle might benefit more by reallocating these funds to address other pressing needs, especially with Jaxon Smith-Njigba establishing himself as a serious receiving option.

Why Would the Seahawks Consider Trading DK Metcalf?

Mike Salk of Seattle Sports argued that the Seahawks should consider trading DK Metcalf and replacing him with a rookie wide receiver. Salk acknowledged Metcalf’s talent but pointed out that his position is highly valued across the NFL.

In an article from October 16, titled “Salk: Why Seahawks should explore a DK Metcalf trade,” he explained that while Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald is focused on building a physical team, the offensive line lacks the necessary physicality.

Salk proposed that the Seahawks could capitalize on a team with a more finesse-oriented approach by trading Metcalf, potentially securing a valuable draft haul to acquire players better suited to the team’s needs. While the Seahawks do have roster gaps to fill, moving Metcalf would create a new void.

As Seattle has learned, there’s no certainty that rookie offensive linemen will be successful in the NFL. In contrast, Metcalf is a proven player, even though his value may rise. Despite this, opposing teams are likely to inquire about Metcalf at the trade deadline and again during the offseason.
