Both Ivan Provorov and Blue Jackets President Don Waddell have publicly expressed interest in reaching a deal to keep Provorov in Columbus. But whether that actually happens remains uncertain.
According to RG.org, the New York Rangers have shown strong interest in Provorov. A source stated, “He’s one of their options to bolster the blue line.” The Rangers are looking to make several roster changes, which could involve moving RFA K’Andre Miller. If Provorov ends up in New York, it would be a tough loss for Columbus—especially to a division rival.
Provorov is coming off one of his best seasons, tallying 33 points and averaging 23 minutes of ice time per game. He also played in all 82 games for the third straight year and has done so six times in his nine-year career. His durability alone arguably justifies a good portion of the contract he’ll command.

Columbus needs to lock him down. It’s likely Provorov wants a long-term contract—something in the seven- or eight-year range—while Waddell may prefer a shorter three- to four-year deal. That part isn’t hard to figure out.
Even Provorov’s wife has publicly stated their family would love to remain in Columbus.
