Just In: Rangers move heaven and earth land Dallas Stars’ forward after disappointing end of season

A simple Google search defines “anyone” as “any person or people”—and that’s exactly the mindset the Rangers should have when it comes to pursuing Him in trade talks.

After another disappointing finish to their season—this time with a third straight loss in the Western Conference Final—it’s obvious the Dallas Stars need to make significant changes. One of those potential shake-ups could involve parting ways with star winger, who’s entering the final year of his contract. The Rangers should be prepared to go all-in—and then some—to acquire him and lock him up with a long-term extension.

Before diving into why that would be a smart move, it’s worth revisiting what He brings to the ice. Drafted 39th overall in 2017, he developed his game over four seasons in the OHL with the Kingston Frontenacs and Niagara IceDogs before turning pro.

In 2019-20, Robertson tallied 25 goals and 22 assists (47 points) with the AHL’s Texas Stars, and also picked up his first NHL point during a brief three-game stint with Dallas. From there, he began living up to the word across his chest—he became a true star.

The Rangers Should Be Willing To Trade Anyone for Jason Robertson

In his first real NHL season during the COVID-shortened campaign, Robertson posted 45 points in 51 games—a strong debut. Impressively, that’s the lowest points-per-game mark he’s had since.

He followed it with 79 points in 74 games in 2021-22, a massive 109-point campaign in 2022-23, and consecutive 80-point seasons in 2023-24 and 2024-25. For comparison, only two Rangers players—Artemi Panarin (2020-21, 2023-24, 2024-25) and Mika Zibanejad (2020-21)—have had better single-season outputs over that four-year span.
