The Las Vegas Raiders face tough choices this offseason as they work to restore their franchise to its former glory. To help lead this effort, owner Mark Davis hired longtime Tampa Bay Buccaneers executive John Spytek as the team’s new general manager.

Addressing the quarterback situation is the organization’s top priority, but first, they must move on from last season’s struggles at the position. According to ESPN’s Bill Barnwell, veteran quarterback Gardner Minshew could be a cap casualty as the Raiders look to reshape their roster.

Minshew had one of the worst seasons of his career in 2024 after being signed by former general manager Tom Telesco to a two-year contract worth up to $25 million.

Fortunately for the Raiders, only $15 million was guaranteed, and releasing him after June 1st would free up $6 million in cap space.

With a new front office in place, the Raiders are expected to part ways with Minshew and explore other quarterback options, either in free agency or the draft.

Sam Darnold has been frequently linked to Las Vegas as a potential free agent signing, while top college prospects such as Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders and Ole Miss’ Jaxson Dart are also viable draft targets.
