The Indianapolis Colts recently hosted Leonard Fournette for a free agent visit, but there are two other teams that might also be interested in pursuing him.
Leonard Fournette is currently a free agent without an NFL team, but he could find a new opportunity soon. The Indianapolis Colts recently hosted the veteran for a visit, indicating at least some interest from the organization. However, no agreement has been reached yet. As a vested veteran, Fournette would not be owed any guaranteed money if he signs after Week 1, so it’s possible he could join a new team by Week 2.

The Colts are not his only potential destination. While they brought him in for a look, other teams around the league could also be in the market for an experienced running back. Fournette would likely command no more than the league minimum, making him an appealing option for teams like the Carolina Panthers and Kansas City Chiefs, which seem to be the best fits for his skill set.
Chiefs, Panthers Could Steal Free Agent Leonard Fournette From Colts
The Carolina Panthers have found their long-term answer at running back with second-round pick Jonathon Brooks. However, the former Texas Longhorn is currently on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list as he recovers from a torn ACL. In his absence, the Panthers will have to rely on the lackluster duo of Chuba Hubbard and Miles Sanders. While Hubbard can temporarily fill the gap, signing free agent Leonard Fournette could add much-needed competition.
At this point in his career, Fournette is primarily a short-term solution and a modest depth option. Still, even the current version of Fournette could be an upgrade over Miles Sanders, who struggled significantly in his first season with the Panthers. Given Dave Canales’ preference for a strong running game, Fournette could be an ideal free agent to take on a few carries per game until Brooks returns to full health.
Replace One First-Round Pick With Another
The Kansas City Chiefs’ already thin backfield took another hit with former first-round pick Clyde Edwards-Helaire being placed on the Non-Football Injury list. Although the LSU product would likely have been the fourth option, his absence still creates a noticeable gap in the roster. The team could benefit from added experience, and Leonard Fournette might be the perfect free-agent solution.
Isiah Pacheco is firmly established as the starter, but the rest of the depth chart raises concerns. Samaje Perine joined the team just days ago after being released by Denver, and while he might contribute as a pass-catcher, he’s closer to the end of his career than the beginning. Meanwhile, undrafted free agent Carson Steele had an impressive preseason but has yet to prove himself in the regular season. Although Leonard Fournette has slowed down in recent years, his presence could bring much-needed stability to the backfield.
