Walker Buehler, the Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher, had a rather average 2024 season, posting a 5.38 ERA and suffering six losses in 16 starts.
Given the talent of the Dodgers, losing six of those starts was disappointing enough that Los Angeles might have considered moving on from him while he was recovering from another arm injury.
However, Buehler was outstanding in his last 10 postseason innings. In three appearances, including two in the World Series, he allowed no runs, giving up just five hits and four walks.
His dominant performance during the playoffs may have earned him a solid contract in free agency, though it’s unlikely to come from the Dodgers.

So where might Buehler end up? A likely destination is the New York Mets, with a predicted deal of three years and $45 million (with an opt-out after 2026).
The Mets have a history of revitalizing struggling pitchers, as seen with Sean Manaea and Luis Severino in 2024. Adding Buehler would be their most high-profile reclamation project yet. If he returns to his pre-injury form, Buehler could emerge as a Cy Young contender, making him a great value at $15 million a year.
