The race to acquire Him is officially underway, with numerous teams vying for the 26-year-old outfielder. The New York Mets have emerged as strong contenders in this pursuit, reportedly receiving a boost from star shortstop Francisco Lindor, who is playing an active role in recruiting Him.

The Mets have planned a meeting with Him, marking an early step towards what could be a massive contract with the National League East team.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, both the Mets and their crosstown rivals, the New York Yankees, have meetings lined up with Soto, with Yankees manager Aaron Boone confirming their interest. Passan also noted that Lindor is working to help bring Soto to Queens, while the Yankees are emphasizing Soto’s strong performances in the Bronx this season as a selling point.

Mets owner Steve Cohen has proven he’s willing to spend big to bring top talent to the team, and if there’s one player he’s likely to make a substantial offer for, it’s Juan Soto, who just finished another outstanding season. Soto could be the key addition the Mets need to push through after last year’s deep postseason run.

In the 2024 season with the Yankees, Soto posted impressive stats, hitting .288/.419/.569 with 41 home runs and 109 RBIs in 157 games and 713 plate appearances. Over the past two seasons, including his time with the Padres, he’s hit .281/.415/.545 with 76 home runs, 218 RBIs, and a 166 OPS+.

Francisco Lindor would undoubtedly be thrilled if the Mets landed Soto in free agency. Lindor put in a stellar performance in 2024, helping the Mets reach the National League Championship Series and earning a spot as an NL MVP finalist. He hit .273/.344/.500 with 33 home runs, 91 RBIs, and 29 stolen bases.
