Just In: LA Angels’ roster move add Chris Taylor’ replacement

The Los Angeles Angels filled an open roster spot by adding Him. to their Major League roster after placing outfielder Chris Taylor on the 10-day injured list. The Angels acquired Him. and cash from the San Francisco Giants in exchange for a player to be named later. He is expected to serve as a backup at first base behind Nolan Schanuel, while Mike Trout remains the team’s designated hitter.

The trade was finalized Tuesday afternoon, just hours before the Angels aimed for their sixth consecutive win against the Athletics, as announced on the team’s social media.

Taylor’s injury is poorly timed for the 34-year-old, who had started to bounce back in June by hitting .238 with three doubles and a home run following a rough May. While Wade steps into his spot, manager Ron Washington appears committed to Schanuel, who leads the team in hits and batting average and continues to bat near the top of the lineup.

Wade Jr. has struggled in the early part of his seventh MLB season, and the Giants opted to replace him with Dominic Smith as they compete in a tight National League West race. For Los Angeles, the move likely signals a reserve role for Wade, though the team hopes a new environment can spark a turnaround in his performance.

Now sitting in the middle of the AL West standings, the Angels have managed to stay afloat even without Trout for part of the season. With their star back and postseason hopes still alive, they’re betting that Wade can contribute as they push for an AL Wild Card spot.

Wade is expected to make his Angels debut Tuesday night against the Athletics. The team is hopeful he’ll prove to be worth the future player they’ll send to San Francisco.
