The Indianapolis Colts have struggled in Week 1 games, not securing a win since 2014. This season, they aim to change that by starting strong against their divisional rivals, the reigning AFC South champion Houston Texans.
As they look to break their decade-long Week 1 losing streak, the Colts made two roster moves ahead of their season opener. They announced on X that cornerback Chris Lammons and kicker Spencer Shrader have been promoted to the active roster.

Lammons, who played in four games for the Colts last season, began his NFL career with the Miami Dolphins in 2019, appearing in 12 games. He later played in 30 games for the Kansas City Chiefs between 2020 and 2022. A rotational player, Lammons has recorded 32 tackles and one interception in his career.
Shrader, an undrafted rookie free agent out of Notre Dame, joined the Colts this offseason. During his college career with Notre Dame and the University of South Florida, he made 43 of 63 field goal attempts and was 61-for-62 on extra points. Last season, he went 15-for-22 on field goals for Notre Dame.

Shrader has been called up as insurance since starting kicker Matt Gay is questionable for Week 1 due to a hernia that required surgery after the final preseason game. Although Gay hasn’t been ruled out, Shrader is on standby.
The Colts finished last season with a 9-8 record despite rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson suffering a season-ending shoulder injury early in the year. Now healthy, the Colts hope Richardson can lead them back to the playoffs.
