He has been part of the St. Louis Cardinals since 2018, making a strong impression early on and earning All-Star nods in both 2018 and 2022.
Recently, though, he hasn’t been able to replicate that success. This year, the veteran right-hander has taken the mound for 26 starts, posting a 6-10 record with a 5.04 ERA over 130.1 innings.
With free agency approaching, Mikolas’ time in St. Louis may be nearing its end. Tim Kelly of Bleacher Report projects that the Cardinals’ longtime starter will move on this offseason.
“Mikolas was once a standout for St. Louis, but while he’s managed to log innings, his performance has dipped, posting a 5.04 ERA over the span of his three-year, $55.75 million contract,” Kelly noted. “At 37, if he wants to keep pitching, it’ll likely be with another team.”
