The Red Sox may have missed out on acquiring Juan Soto, but they could still land a solid alternative.
While Soto would have transformed Boston’s lineup, Craig Breslow and his team still have options in free agency, with several impactful bats on the market. One of the most talked-about names linked to Boston is Teoscar Hernández, who just wrapped up a stellar first season with the Dodgers.
Although an initial report after Soto’s deal with the Mets suggested Boston’s chances with Hernández weren’t great, MLB Network’s Jon Morosi believes the Red Sox remain strong contenders to sign the two-time All-Star.

“The Red Sox are a very intriguing fit,” Morosi said Monday on Hot Stove. “Teoscar has experience in the American League East, and his numbers at Fenway Park are outstanding. Whether it’s today, tomorrow, or later in the week, I think the Dodgers and the Red Sox are both in good positions to sign Teoscar Hernández.”
Hernández reportedly prefers to stay in Los Angeles but has “long been intrigued” by the idea of playing in Boston. With Soto off the table, the Red Sox might feel even more compelled to bolster their lineup with some power.
If Hernández isn’t the choice, another free-agent slugger familiar with the AL East could be a good fit for Boston.
