Indianapolis Colts’ second-year quarterback Anthony Richardson is confident that the NFL should take notice if he reaches his full potential.
“I talked about it with Tom Brady,” Richardson told The Athletic’s James Boyd. “He’s a genius when it comes to football, making all kinds of throws, not just the flashy ones. I want to add that to my game alongside my physical skills. Once I put it all together … nothing can stop me.”

Richardson’s talent is undeniable. In a 29-27 Week 1 home loss to the Houston Texans, the 6-foot-4, 244-pound QB launched a 60-yard touchdown to wide receiver Alec Pierce during the first quarter.
According to NFL Next Gen Stats, the throw traveled 65.3 yards in the air, ranking as the third-longest completion recorded since 2017.

“That opening touchdown to Alec, I’ve never seen anything like it,” Colts head coach Shane Steichen said postgame. “That’s pure physical ability, launching it that far. Few guys can do that.”

While Richardson appreciates recognition for his athleticism, he aims to be seen as an elite quarterback.
“I know I’m physically gifted. Everyone knows that,” Richardson said. “But being a quarterback goes beyond just physicality and speed.”
To achieve his goals, Richardson needs to improve his accuracy. During his rookie season in 2023, the No. 4 overall pick completed 59.5% of his passes in four games. Against the Texans, he went 9-of-19 for 212 yards, two touchdowns, and one interception.
If Richardson can refine his accuracy, the possibilities for the rest of the season are exciting. His next test will be in a Week 2 road game against the Green Bay Packers.
