Former Los Angeles Angels manager is reportedly in the running to become the next manager of the Chicago White Sox, according to Jon Heyman of the New York Post. Heyman also mentioned St. Louis Cardinals bench coach Daniel Descalso as a potential candidate.
The White Sox dismissed former manager Pedro Grifol before the end of the 2024 season, following a 21-game losing streak. The team concluded the season with the most losses in modern MLB history, finishing with a 41-121 record.
Nevin joined the Angels as a third base coach in November 2021 and had prior experience managing various minor league teams, including the Double-A and Triple-A affiliates of the Detroit Tigers. He was elevated to interim manager after the Angels fired Joe Maddon in June 2022, compiling a 46-60 record for the remainder of that season.
At the conclusion of the 2022 season, the Angels decided to keep Nevin as their manager for 2023, signing him to a one-year deal. Although the Angels seemed poised for a postseason run midway through the 2023 season, they faltered after the trade deadline and ended with a 73-89 record, finishing fourth in the American League West. After the 2023 season, the Angels opted not to pick up Nevin’s option for 2024, leaving him with a total record of 119-149 during his time with the team.

The Angels ultimately parted ways with Nevin, hiring Ron Washington as their new manager. In Washington’s first season, the Angels recorded a franchise-worst 63-99 record. Despite the disappointing results, the Angels have decided to retain Washington for the upcoming 2025 season, prioritizing stability. They also extended general manager Perry Minasian’s contract for two more years.
