The Indianapolis Cultural Trail, Inc. and the Indianapolis Colts announced that the city’s football team has donated $100,000 to support the Cultural Trail’s ongoing expansion along South Street.

This donation will help bring the newest segment of the trail to life, highlighting the Colts’ dedication to enhancing downtown’s vibrancy.

Colts Vice Chair & Owner Kalen Jackson views the Cultural Trail as a cornerstone of Indianapolis.

“The Cultural Trail is vital in making Indianapolis a more enjoyable, memorable, and active city for residents and visitors, especially near Lucas Oil Stadium,” Jackson said in a statement. “Through our contribution to the South Street expansion, we aim to create a safer and more welcoming environment for our community and guests for years to come.”

The South Street extension will form a southern loop, connecting the Virginia Avenue corridor, nearby Southside neighborhoods, and Stadium Village to downtown. The 0.6-mile stretch will run from New Jersey Street to Capitol Avenue, enhancing access to key sites such as Lucas Oil Stadium and the Indiana Convention Center.

This expansion will complement the Indiana Avenue and 10th Street segments that opened earlier this year, adding about two miles to the linear park and improving connectivity between cultural districts and neighborhoods.

Beyond enhanced connectivity, the new segments will feature a variety of plantings, including trees, shrubs, grasses, and perennials, contributing to the trail’s aesthetic and environmental appeal.
