As the Indianapolis Colts offense faltered early in their Week 10 game against the Buffalo Bills, it raised questions about whether another quarterback change might be in order. To recap, the Colts benched 2023 fourth-overall pick Anthony Richardson after he had a rough start to the season.
Joe Flacco was given the start, but despite some solid performances in Richardson’s absence, he opened the Week 10 game in the worst possible fashion. Flacco threw interceptions on consecutive drives, the first of which was returned for a pick-six, giving the Bills an early lead.

While it’s still early in the game, the coaching staff may be reconsidering whether Richardson should return to the field to energize the offense. Although Richardson struggled with turnovers in his six starts, throwing seven interceptions, he demonstrated a knack for making big plays downfield. This might be exactly what the Colts need after their challenging start.
Is it time to put Anthony Richardson back in the Colts offense?
The choice to bench Richardson surprised some, given that he’s only appeared in four games as a rookie and hasn’t had much opportunity to adjust to the league. Meanwhile, Flacco, approaching 40, is certainly not the long-term quarterback solution for Indianapolis.
Richardson has faced significant criticism, especially for taking a play off in Week 8 and being spotted yawning on the sideline during last week’s loss to the Vikings, despite not playing. Signs have hinted at a future for the Colts without Richardson, but perhaps this is his chance to prove himself.
The AFC remains wide open, and with some wins, the Colts could find themselves back in the playoff race. It might be time to test if Richardson’s bench stint has helped him develop and if he can turn around the season—and his future with the Colts.
