The Detroit Lions received encouraging news regarding DJ Reader, their new nose tackle, who is listed as questionable for Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Rams. This is the most favorable status for an injured player, suggesting that he is more likely to play.

Reader, who joined Detroit on a two-year, $27.25 million contract in free agency, missed the entire offseason while recovering from a torn quad sustained last season with Cincinnati. Initially expected to return in Week 2, Reader’s rehab has progressed faster than expected. He returned to practice last week, participated fully this week, and is on track for his Lions debut.
“He looked pretty good,” head coach Dan Campbell said. “Now it’s just about how many snaps he can handle if he plays. Will he be able to do more next week, or will it cause a setback? He’s improving daily and took on more yesterday, which is a positive sign.”
Safety Ifeatu Melifonwu (ankle) is doubtful after missing another practice on Friday, and safety Loren Strickland (thumb) is ruled out.
