“Another potential trade target for the Miami Heat is no longer available.
Jamal Murray and the Denver Nuggets have reached an agreement on a four-year, $208 million maximum contract extension, removing Murray from next summer’s free-agent pool.

The Heat have developed a reputation for keeping tabs on unhappy stars around the league who might push for a move to Miami, and Murray was considered a player worth watching.
If the Nuggets’ typically frugal ownership had chosen not to extend Murray, he could have pursued a long-term contract with another team within the year. However, that possibility is off the table, as Murray is now committed to the Nuggets for the next five seasons.”
Denver Nuggets star Jamal Murray agreed to an extension over the weekend, taking him off the market for the Heat next summer.
The Nuggets made a smart decision by securing a key piece of their 2023 championship team, especially someone who has developed exceptional chemistry with Nikola Jokic.
Although Murray played a significant role in the Nuggets’ 2023 title run, questions arose about his value following his struggles in the playoffs and the Olympics this summer. However, he is coming off what might be his best regular season, averaging 21.2 points on 48.1% shooting and 6.5 assists.
Had Murray been available, he would have been an ideal stylistic fit for the Heat. His ability to thrive alongside a playmaking center would have complemented Bam Adebayo perfectly, and his scoring could have bolstered Miami’s struggling offense.
With Murray no longer an option, the Heat are forced to eliminate another name from their list of targets.
