Utah football fans received some disappointing news on Monday morning as cornerback Kenan Johnson has been ruled out for the rest of the season. However, head coach Kyle Whittingham offered some hope, announcing that Johnson is eligible for a medical redshirt, allowing him to return next season if he chooses.
Whittingham said Kenan Johnson suffered a season-ending injury. He will be able to get another year back if he wants to come back.
Aliki Vimahi was injured, but his wasn't a season-ending injury. "Looks like he's going to be with us at some point."

Johnson, a transfer from Georgia Tech, played just 13 snaps for the Utes before sustaining the injury last Thursday night. He was expected to be a key contributor to the Utah defense this fall, filling a crucial need at the cornerback position.

With senior Zemaiah Vaughn still holding down one corner spot, the team will likely rely on sophomore Elijah Davis and redshirt freshman Cameron Calhoun, both of whom lack experience. Davis has played only 40 snaps over the past two seasons for Utah, while Calhoun logged 13 snaps for Michigan last year.
Defensive lineman Aliki Vimahi also suffered an injury, but it is not considered season-ending. “Looks like he’s going to be with us at some point,” Whittingham said on Monday. While injuries are an unfortunate aspect of every season, the Utes are hoping for improved health this year after enduring one of the highest injury counts among FBS teams last fall.
