The Seattle Seahawks are expected to re-sign veteran nose tackle Johnathan Hankins to a one-year contract, according to a source who spoke with FOX 13 Seattle. The news was initially reported by NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.

Although the Seahawks made 11 picks in last weekend’s NFL Draft, they did not use any of them on a nose tackle. This need became even more pressing following the recent release of 2023 fourth-round pick Cameron Young, leaving the team thin at the position.

Hankins, 32, played all 17 games for Seattle last season, starting in eight. He recorded 30 tackles, including five for loss, along with a sack and an interception.

Head coach Mike Macdonald addressed the position on Saturday, saying, “If the opportunity was there, we probably would have taken it. I won’t speak for John (Schneider), but we’ve still got time before the season, and hopefully more chances will come up.”

This marks Hankins’ sixth NFL team, having previously spent time with the New York Giants (four seasons), Indianapolis Colts (one season), Oakland/Las Vegas Raiders (over four seasons), Dallas Cowboys (over one year), and last season with the Seahawks.

In related roster moves, Seattle released four players Tuesday to make room for their undrafted free agent signings: quarterback Jaren Hall, center Mike Novitsky, and linebackers Michael Dowell and Kenneth Odumegwu.

Hall’s release stands out due to his position, but Seattle’s quarterback situation appears settled with the recent drafting of Jalen Milroe in the third round and the re-signing of Drew Lock. This move follows the trade of Sam Howell to the Minnesota Vikings on Saturday.
