The Los Angeles Rams announced on Monday that they have signed former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver and punt returner to a one-year deal. Specific terms of the contract were not made public.

He, who went undrafted out of the University of Utah in 2022, spent the past three seasons with the Eagles, mainly contributing as a punt returner. Over 38 games, he totaled 68 punt returns for 771 yards. In 2023, he led the NFL in punt return yards with 417 before shoulder and neck injuries limited him to just five games.

Now 28, Covey also returned 11 kickoffs for 236 yards and caught 11 passes for 76 yards during his time in Philadelphia.

Philadelphia Eagles Release Former Utah WR Britain Covey

This addition provides the Rams with needed depth at wide receiver, particularly following the departures of Cooper Kupp, Demarcus Robinson, and others. The team currently features Puka Nacua and Davante Adams as starters, with Tutu Atwell and Jordan Whittington expected to contribute.

Should Covey earn a roster spot, he’ll likely compete for punt return duties alongside Xavier Smith, Whittington, Atwell, and others—a key area for improvement, as the Rams had just 18 punt returns last season (fewest in the league) and only 161 total return yards, ranking third-lowest.

Sean McVay gives update on Rams’ pursuit of Jalen Ramsey

Another move the Rams have been linked to this offseason is a potential reunion with cornerback Jalen Ramsey. Head coach Sean McVay shared the latest on discussions with the Miami Dolphins:

Sean McVay Provides Another Jalen Ramsey Update

“There’s not a significant update at the moment. Jalen is an incredible talent who’s still playing at an elite level. He and I have stayed in close contact ever since we traded him to Miami. He’s a fierce competitor, a great person, and a devoted father.

When it comes to a player of his caliber, there are several factors to consider — things like his contract and what kind of compensation Miami would want in return.

Those conversations are still happening, likely with other teams as well. We’ll see how it unfolds, but we’re always open to improving our roster with top-tier talent, as long as everything makes sense within the overall structure.”
