The Las Vegas Raiders’ tight end group is already one of their strongest positions, but they continue to add depth. After Harrison Bryant signed with the Philadelphia Eagles in free agency, the team needed a new TE3.
On Tuesday, the Raiders announced they had reached an agreement with veteran tight end, who has spent his entire career with the Carolina Panthers since being selected in the fourth round of the 2018 NFL Draft.
Thomas was a solid contributor in Carolina, starting 54 games over seven seasons. In 2022, the Panthers rewarded him with a three-year, $16.95 million contract extension, but injuries started to affect his career. He was placed on Injured Reserve in each of the last two seasons and appeared in just five games in 2024.

When healthy, Thomas can be a reliable tight end for the Raiders, fueling further speculation that the team might be considering trading former second-round pick Michael Mayer.
While Brock Bowers is clearly the top tight end on the roster, Mayer was highly regarded coming out of Notre Dame and could thrive with a team where he’s the primary tight end.
Thomas’ addition gives the Raiders more flexibility, making it easier to move on from Mayer if a good trade offer comes their way. It’s unclear what kind of contract Las Vegas gave Thomas, but it’s likely a one-year deal.
