The Raiders strengthened their wide receiver lineup.
The primary objective for the Las Vegas Raiders in the inaugural season of the Tom Telesco/Antonio Pierce era is to reach the playoffs. Achieving anything beyond that, like winning the AFC West, would be a significant bonus. As Raiders training camp progresses, Telesco has been actively seeking ways to enhance Pierce’s team on the field. Recently, the team signed wide receiver Dax Milne, formerly with the Washington Commanders.

On Tuesday, the Raiders’ official account on X (formerly Twitter) announced, “We have signed WR Dax Milne. In a corresponding move, we have waived/injured DT Tomari Fox, who will revert to the Reserve/Injured list if he clears waivers.”

With a new offensive coaching staff under former Chicago Bears offensive coordinator Luke Getsy, the Raiders aim to implement an offensive scheme influenced by West Coast offenses, focusing on timing and short/intermediate passing. Given Milne’s skillset, he is expected to make a quick impact.
What does Dax Milne bring to Raiders’ new offense?
The Raiders are currently short on wide receivers. Davante Adams is away in Las Vegas for the expected birth of his child, and newly signed veteran Keelan Doss didn’t participate in Tuesday’s practice. Additionally, undrafted rookies Tulu Griffin and Jeff Foreman have both been sidelined with injuries; Griffin has missed the entire training camp, while Foreman injured his knee on Monday.
Milne offers some experience and productivity from his three-year stint with Washington, where he was drafted in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft. Though he only started twice and posted modest stats—15 catches, 120 yards, and one touchdown—his limited playing time accounts for these numbers.
However, Milne’s contributions on special teams are notable. In 2022, he led the NFL with 40 punt returns for 311 yards and added 15 kickoffs for 300 yards. For a late-round pick, this is impressive. If he can take on a larger role with the Raiders, this gamble might prove worthwhile. For a team in Las Vegas, underdogs like Milne, who have defied expectations, are especially appreciated.
