The connection between the Los Angeles Rams and Pittsburgh Steelers remains strong.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Steelers are signing veteran wide receiver in free agency, giving him a one-year contract worth $2 million.
He, now 33, had his best years with the Rams from 2017 to 2021, a stretch that included a Super Bowl title in the 2021 season and back-to-back 1,000-yard receiving seasons in 2018 and 2019.
However, He suffered an ACL tear late in the 2021 season and was traded to the Tennessee Titans in 2022. Afterward, he joined the Houston Texans ahead of the 2023 season, but over two seasons with them, he totaled just 629 receiving yards and one touchdown — with only 203 yards and no touchdowns last year.
Given his recent production, it would be unrealistic for Pittsburgh to expect Woods to return to his pre-injury form. Nonetheless, “Bobby Trees” is known as a beloved locker room presence and could help ease the transition for Mason Rudolph, Will Howard, or whoever ultimately starts at quarterback for the Steelers next season.
Interestingly, Pittsburgh has developed a pattern of bringing in wideouts from that Rams Super Bowl team. They had Van Jefferson on the roster last year (though he’s now with the Titans) and still have another one of Woods’ former Rams teammates for him to reconnect with.
