The San Francisco 49ers have secured a temporary replacement for kicker Jake Moody, who is sidelined indefinitely with a high-ankle sprain.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers have signed former Pittsburgh Steelers kicker to a one-year deal.
He, 28, played one game for the Carolina Panthers in 2023, missing his only attempt from 50+ yards. In 2022, he appeared in 14 games for the Steelers, making 12 field goals, including one from 50+ yards and five out of six from 40+ yards.
Overall, Wright has made 85% of his 47 career field goal attempts and is 6-for-9 from beyond 50 yards. Out of 83 kickoffs, 28% resulted in touchbacks. The 49ers needed a kicker after punter Mitch Wishnowsky was forced to take on the role when Moody was injured.

It’s unclear how long Moody will be out, as recovery depends on the severity of the sprain, which could range from one to two months. Ideally, the 49ers will score touchdowns during this period, limiting Wright’s role to extra points.
